My 11 year old Grandson was given this book to read for a book report. As we read it together the questions came quickly as he tried to comprehend the horror of this child's life after Hitler. He has had a problem showing empathy and by sharing her story she taught him so much.
I have this book five stars for the touching story. Elly is able to put you in her shoes by opening a new world where you are fighting and fighting just to see the light of day. I can't find one problem in this book because it is so magnificent! I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a tear jerking book or a book where reality slaps you in the face and first world problems are taken to a whole other level.
Well written and interesting book.
I was expecting much more when I bought this book. I thought it would be more detailed and describe more of what happened to this young woman, and it did, but it was incredibly repetitive, chapter after chapter and line after line. Although I do not discredit this survivors tale, I was not impressed with the quality of writing.
It's a good read if you can overlook the constant repeating of the story in the following chapters.
It was not as detailled as other books I've read, and there are too mant repetitions. It says the same, chapter after chapter, like if we did not get it... I found this book boring.

both of my children have read this book in school and loved it. When we went to the local library to get it so my oldest could read it again they did not have it but of corse amazon did at a good price
